Frequently Asked Questions

Can I keep using the original RainLog?

The original RainLog is being retired.

Apple no longer supports the older database/sync system that the original RainLog was built around, so it can no longer be reliably maintained for current and future iOS versions.

RainLogV2 is the supported version going forward.

Why is RainLogV2 a subscription?

RainLogV2 uses a different backend database system, which has ongoing running costs.

This change improves reliability, allows us to assist users better when needed, and makes cross-platform support possible.

The subscription is a very modest yearly cost, and it helps cover the ongoing work required to keep RainLogV2 maintained, supported, and compatible with future devices and operating system updates.

If you decide RainLogV2 is no longer right for you, your rainfall data remains yours and can be exported so you can take it with you.

Maintaining an app with ongoing updates, support, cloud services, and compatibility work takes a significant amount of time. Like everyone else, developers also have families to support and bills to pay.
